As our country’s population is aging, the number of households that are made up of active adults, as well as multi-generational households that may include grandparents and grandchildren in the same home, continues to grow.
Donna Mathis, president and owner of Haven Design Works understands that these residences need to ‘work’ for all occupants, and is delighted to share her interior design expertise with builders who target these homebuyers in particular.
“We carefully consider the different functions of the home, and how the various spaces in the home are actually used,” she notes. “Many families would benefit from safe and accessible housing that supports independence and lifelong living. For instance, think about having a no-step entry into the home.”
“As an interior designer, I am very much in favor of universal design, accessibility, excellent lighting and other innovative design options that make every space in a home useful to its occupants,” according to Donna, who encourages her builder clients to incorporate her suggestions.
The Home Builders Association of Georgia (HBAG), as well as GAHBA’s 50+ Housing Council are strong proponents of building homes that are suitable for residents in a variety of age brackets. In 2013, HBAG launched its new ALL Home Program, which stands for A Liveable Lifestyle, a State-wide voluntary certification program for builders.
Haven Design Works is able to introduce thoughtful design elements into each home to help target the right audience. To learn more about Donna Mathis’ vision for the future, call 678-386-9805.
